Filter Chokes are required to reduce the harmonic contents in DC voltage obtained from a rectifier. DC Filter Chokes are used in "L" and "pi" filters for filtering out third harmonics and above.
Turns are wound on a carefully chosen cold rolled core and air gap is introduced to get the required inductance. Flux density is chosen such that the choke operates below the knee point of the core material.
